New Waterfront Bakery Offers Scratch-made Cookies, Breads, Cakes and More

Project partners and eager community members gathered yesterday to commemorate the occasion with a ceremonial “cake cutting” – more fitting than ribbon for a new bakery.

“What a sweet end to an exciting summer at the Port of Everett, as we celebrate the opening of the new South Fork Baking Co.,” Port Commissioner David Simpson said. “On behalf of the Port, we welcome and thank you for choosing Waterfront Place for your bakery. We are proud to see your vision come to life here as we grow our destination waterfront.”

The new bakery marks the first retail storefront for Katherine Hillmann, owner and head baker of South Fork Baking Co. She offers a variety of her popular baked goods, espresso drinks and sandwiches, and she plans to host cake decorating and pastry skills classes.

Hillmann started South Fork in her Everett kitchen in 2016, baking cookies, breads and cakes from scratch. Seven years later, she now has her own bake shop overlooking the Port of Everett Marina.

The bakery is open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

I appreciate the patience; everyone has been so lovey and graceful with me. I really appreciate everyone who has given me their time and support.”

South Fork Baking Co. is part of the Port of Everett’s new “restaurant row” in Fisherman’s Harbor – the first development district at Waterfront Place.

The bakery and neighboring Fisherman Jack’s – an Asian-fusion restaurant that opened at the waterfront late last month – occupy the first of four new buildings being added here, just south of Hotel Indigo.

“I’ve been to a number of ribbon cuttings this year, and so many of them have been down at our Everett waterfront,” City of Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin said. “On behalf of the City, I’d like to welcome South Fork Baking Co.! I also want to thank our Port of Everett commissioners, CEO Lisa Lefeber, and her entire team. They’ve done a fantastic job transforming our waterfront. We’re so excited to see this growth!”

In addition to South Fork Baking Co., four other restaurants opened at the Port of Everett’s Waterfront Place this summer: Fisherman Jack’s, The Muse Whiskey & Coffee, Sound 2 Summit Brewing Co. and Woods Coffee.

The Port of Everett, in partnership with private development partner The Schuster Group, expects to break ground on two new buildings at Fisherman's Harbor’s “restaurant row” early next year.
